Indigenous people had inhabited Australia for many thousands of years before European settlers arrived in 1788. The new settlers found a rugged, unmapped continent, which they set out to explore. Their expeditions faced many challenges. Exploring the Unknown follows courageous explorers who sought, not only to map the land of Australia, but the icy landscape of Antarctica too.
