Top Skills: Grammar is intended primarily as an aid for the Selective Schools and Scholarship exams. However, this book can be used productively by any upper primary student wishing to improve his or her grammar. It will provide a solid grounding in grammar skills which will be vital in secondary school.
The book consists of twenty units. Each unit concentrates on either nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs or pronouns. The basics are revised before moving on to more challenging work. The topics covered in the remainder of the unit include:
- Prepositions
- Punctuation
- Sentence construction
- Proofreading
- Frequently confused words
- Prefixes and suffixes
Maximum value will be gained from this book by writing out corrections in the space provided at the back of the book. The parent can test the child on these corrections from time to time.
A sound understanding of grammar will improve written expression skills. Many students do not achieve good results in writing tasks because their grammar is weak. I have targeted those particular areas which most frequently cause problems. Consistent practice will remedy these problems and enhance these writing skills.
