VoiceWorks Upper Primary

VoiceWorks is a collection of beautifully illustrated play scripts for guided reading, reader's theatre, class performance and modelled writing.

Traditional, contemporary and "language play" scripts presented at three broad levels of challenge enable all children within a class to enjoy reading and performing.

• Each role in the script is colour coded for easy role identification
• The clear layout assists the children to read and understand the conventions of play scripts
• The number of reading parts varies from 4 –20 depending upon whether the play is to be read in a group reading session, a class reading/ performance or a year level performance
• The traditional tales, contemporary stories and language-play scripts are presented as play scripts at three broad levels of challenge enabling all children within a class to enjoy participating and performing.
• The last three pages of each student book have “tips to performers” with notes and reminders on voice use, sound effects, costumes, sets and props. These can be discussed with students
• Many of the play scripts have been developed from well known and loved stories such as Brown Bread and Honey; Arlo the Dandy Lion, Belinda’s Blanket and My Grandma Lives in Gooligulch.

• Work cooperatively with others as they read, rehearse and present plays
• Identify and gain an understanding of the various dramatic script forms
• Discuss the way in which stories work and why characters behave in certain ways
• Share their sense of story and dramatic form with others
• Read and present their own play scripts
• Enjoy playing with language in order to create a response from an audience
